► Once upon a time – It is: From the castle to the museum Tour of the castle and the Imperial Garden

A short journey through time around Oberhausen Castle takes you from the beginnings as the seat of the counts of the Westerholt-Gysenberg family, through the creation of the Kaisergarten, to the founding of the LUDWIGGALERIE. Several eras of garden culture history are made transparent and a walk takes you from the English landscape garden of the 19th century with the original course of the Emscher to the so-called Volkspark of the 20s on the Emscher Island on the other side of the Rhine-Herne Canal. Sculptures line the path and "Slinky" by Tobias Rehberger has been swinging over the park and water since 2011, a spectacular bridge artwork.
