PEOPLE 1

Crises, war and world conflicts
A picture survey

War is an age-old visual motif—from prehistoric cave paintings to the battle scenes of classical art history. With the invention of photography, not only the aesthetics but also the perception and interpretation of armed conflicts fundamentally changed. As early as 1847, the first photographers were documenting armed conflicts. Since then, photographic images have significantly shaped our understanding of war, violence, and power.

Although Anja Niedringhaus has reported from numerous war zones for many years, she rejects the term "war photography" for herself. She once said she was "not looking for that bang-bang." Anja Niedringhaus is not interested in weapons and front lines; the focus of her camera is on people and, time and again, on the culture and everyday life of the civilian population.

On a tour through the exhibition, we learn about the work of the photojournalist and discuss questions of media staging, manipulation, and ethical responsibility. In the museum workshop, images from various (art) historical periods can also be viewed.

Anja Niedringhaus was the first German photographer to receive the Pulitzer Prize, comparable to the Nobel Prize, for her reporting in 2005. Which of her photographs do you consider outstanding? Several teams of judges select and explain their Pulitzer Prize choices.

PEOPLE 2

Faces, sports and world records
A picture story

Anja Niedringhaus possesses the talent to tell complex stories through individual photographs. Her images go far beyond mere documentation of events. With her keen sense of timing, she captures powerful, emotional moments in striking pictures. During our tour of the exhibition, we will gather various impressions. In self-staged scenes, you will then create your own narrative. The resulting images can be printed in the museum workshop.

Students curate and present their highlights from the current exhibition After a tour focusing on the TOP 10 of the current exhibition, small teams of curators make their own selections. The favorite stories and characters are then presented to the whole group. The focus is on both the content information and the performance in front of the works of art with exercises on body language.
At the end, the curators can post selfies of themselves and their favorite work on the LUDWIGGALERIE Facebook page
