Fight cabin fever with art for children!
March 30, 2020For all parents who are currently faced with the mammoth task: How do I keep my child busy indoors, even in an art-educational way? We asked our museum educators Sabine Falkenbach and Ursula Bendorf-Depenbrock for tips.
We emphasize (!) that if you absolutely want/need to go outside (because your dog needs to be walked, for example): only go out with people from your apartment, keep your distance from others (at least 2 meters), wash your hands afterwards (at least 20 seconds)... In principle, however, almost all activities can be carried out indoors.
To our current exhibition LINDA McCARTNEY they have the following ideas:
Your personal photo gallery:
• Grab a camera or smartphone and take photos of music – e.g. I practice the piano, the clarinet, the guitar… my brother sings, my sister plays the drums, we make music at home!
• The topic of “Roadworks”, observations of people and spaces: What do I see from the window, from the balcony, in the garden? Empty playgrounds? Empty streets? The flowers that are now awakening thanks to spring?
• Linda McCartney has also taken many beautiful photos in her private life. Why not dress up with your parents and siblings and take some funny snapshots!
• Which places in your apartment or house are YOUR favorite places? Where do you feel most comfortable? Which details in your home do you like best? What is your favorite toy? Experiment with shots from far away or very close, with perspectives from the side or very far below.

The planned exhibition on Rudolf Holtappel is not neglected in the suggestions:
• Photography from the world of goods – When you go shopping with your parents, are the shelves empty or full? Are there long queues?
• Walk through your home and take photos of your favorite products that you can't go without when you go shopping. Or draw what you imagine THE store to look like, what do they have there? Gummy bears with chewing gum flavor? Donuts filled with pudding?
Speaking of drawing – you can of course also draw your favorite places
• Remember. What does the park around the corner look like in your memory? The playground?
• Search the Internet for photos of spring flowers and paint them.
• The first green – open a sketchbook and write in large letters what you see in small.

Your own museum – What do you collect? Stamps, figurines? How would you arrange them and what would you tell about them in your museum? Tell your family about it.
Your picture in the Social Media Museum: You are welcome to send us your photos and drawings, stating your first name and age, to karoline.seck@oberhausen.de. We want to create a Facebook museum with your works. If you would like to say something about it, you can explain in the email what can be seen and why you did it that way.
If there are people in the photos, make sure the people in the photos are happy for them to be included.
